Follow in the footsteps of Indiana native Ernie Pyle, one of America’s most famous World War II correspondents. From London to Paris: In the Footsteps of Ernie Pyle is a four-credit, semester-long course during spring semester on the life and times of Pyle. The class includes spring break travel to London, England, and Normandy and Paris, France.
Taught by senior lecturer Bonnie Layton, the course analyzes the gifted way Pyle described faraway scenes and people to audiences in the pre-internet-and-CNN era. Students will visit the Imperial War Museum, St. Paul’s Cathedral, the Cabinet War Rooms, historic Omaha and Utah beaches, the American Cemetery and more.
