In one corner of the Franklin Hall commons sits a two-room podcast and radio production suite. Studio 8 is built as a fully functional radio control room with attached studio.
Audio production suite
Studio 8
The control room comfortably seats a host and three on-air guests and features a modern 8-channel Axia iQ mixer designed for adaptability both on- and off-air. It is equipped with Electro-Voice RE27 mics, CD and digital playback devices, and a RØDECaster Pro II audio production console for podcast creation.
Media School students use Studio 8 to record sports and current events podcasts, and the campus’s student radio station has used the studio for podcasts and special events.

Podcasts which have been produced in this studio include Through the Gates, featuring IU scholars, high profile students, and university guests, and In This Climate, a podcast about environmental resilience produced by Indiana University’s Environmental Resilience Institute and The Media School. Studio 8 is also used by the Office of the Bicentennial to record oral history interviews.
Studio 8A: Audio studio with video capability
Studio 8A can be used as an attached studio space in conjunction with Studio 8 or as a standalone recording space. The studio accommodates 4 guests and features a RØDECaster Pro II as well as four PTZ cameras and one fixed camera for simple incorporation of multi-camera video into podcasts or livestreams. The cameras can be switched live via touchpads on the RØDECaster Pro II, which interfaces with OBS Studio through MIDI commands. A beautiful Perzina upright piano can be made available for use in small performance ensemble recordings upon request.
