Ryder story wins national Gracie Award
Visiting lecturer Anne Ryder is the winner of a 2016 Gracie Award for her story on an Indianapolis family’s survival after six armed men invaded their home. The piece, “The Survivors,” was aired and published last May by WTHR-TV Indianapolis.
The piece won the hard news/feature category from the Alliance for Women in Media, which sponsors the Gracie Awards to recognize inspirational reporting of all kinds created by women, for women and about women.
“The Survivors” recounted the home invasion at the Potenza home in Indianapolis. After two hours with the intruders holding the Potenza father at gunpoint, other family members had been shot and sexually assaulted.
Ryder previously has won five other national awards for television reporting and writing while working for WTHR. She continues to produce occasional stories for the station in the Hope to Tell series.
