Peer Mentors

Students supporting students

The Media School offers a peer mentor program for first-year Media School majors from historically underrepresented and first-generation populations. Mentees will be paired with third- and fourth-year Media School students for a yearlong mentorship program.

In addition to fostering peer mentorship among students, mentees and mentors can also expect monthly programming organized by Media School Peer Mentor Coordinators. These events encompass a range of topics, such as professor-led sessions, campus-wide activities, professional and career development opportunities, collaborative initiatives with cultural centers or departments on campus, and seasonal celebrations.

Connection

Connection starts with community, but it does not need to stop there. Our goal for this community is to build connections with each other, to The Media School, to IU, and to potential career networks.

Character

Challenges may naturally arise along the way; together, we can practice and prepare for them. We believe in our potential and as a community strive to be that friend, teacher, or resource to help us measure and achieve our goals, career paths, and personal development.

Celebration

Celebrating achievements and identity is part of the Media School Peer Mentorship mission. Together we create a community that lifts each other up, by celebrating every step, acknowledging where we are, and appreciating who we are.
