Visual Communication
Faculty who study visual communication examine all mass media representations that are visual in nature, regardless of the channel of distribution. Visual communication includes photography, videography, animation, typography, drawing, graphic design and illustration.
The theoretical approaches faculty employ to study visual culture range from visual rhetoric, semiotics, media aesthetics and visual cognition to visual literacy and visual ethics. Research, creative activity and teaching focus on multiple genres of visual phenomena including:
