Wright named editor-in-chief of Annals of the International Communication Association

Professor and Director of Communication Science Paul Wright has been selected as the next editor-in-chief of Annals of the International Communication Association. Published by Oxford, the journal’s mission is to chronicle the past and present and chart the future of the dynamic field of communication through the publication of state-of-the-discipline literature reviews, meta-analyses, and theoretical essays.
“It would be an honor and privilege of the highest magnitude to edit any ICA journal,” Wright said. “But my first ICA publication was in this venue, so it has always meant the most to me. I am truly humbled and grateful to be given the opportunity to serve my colleagues and the field in this capacity.”
Wright thanked Dean David Tolchinksy and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs Gerry Lanosga for their encouragement to apply for the position and their commitment of support. Wright also thanked his nominating letter writers, Herman B Wells Endowed Professor (Class of 1950) Radhika Parameswaran and founding editor of Health Communication, Teresa Thompson.
“The influence that Parameswaran and Thompson have had on my career would be difficult to overstate; they are giants of the field and have been important role models and guides going back to my days as an assistant professor.”
Wright – a fellow of the International Communication Association and Association for Psychological Science – is The Media School’s third editor of an ICA journal. Parameswaran was editor-in-chief of Communication, Culture, and Critique. And The Media School’s founding Associate Dean and Provost Professor Betsi Grabe (now the Dalton Family Professor in Communication at Boston University) was editor-in-chief of Communication Theory.
