Wright honored by the American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry

Professor and Director of Communication Science Paul Wright has received the American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry’s annual meeting Senior Researcher Award. Selected by the AACAP’s program committee, this competitive award is bestowed to senior scholars doing seminal scientific research in areas related to AACAP’s mission. The mission of AACAP is to promote the healthy development of children, adolescents, and families through advocacy, education, and research, and to meet the professional needs of child and adolescent psychiatrists throughout their careers. The award, in addition to recognizing the honoree’s pivotal scientific contributions, provides a stipend to cover travel expenses to the AACAP annual meeting and a waiver of the meeting registration fee.
“My mother graduated from University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) with a Bachelor of Science in nursing. Her commitment to medicine and the public health has always been an inspiration for my own research and teaching on the health and well-being of children and adolescents,” said Wright. “Her education and profession makes a recognition from an important medical society like the AACAP all the more meaningful.”
In 2024, Wright received the National Communication Association’s Outstanding Health Communication Scholar Award. Before being named editor-in-chief elect at Annals of the International Communication Association, Wright was senior editor at Journal of Health Communication. Wright is a fellow of the International Communication Association (for distinguished contributions to the broad field of communication) and Association for Psychological Science (for sustained and outstanding distinguished contributions to psychological science).
