Wilhoit, Weaver study will examine media, trust, democracy
A new study conducted in part by professor emeritus Cleve Wilhoit and professor emeritus David Weaver will research journalists’ conceptualization of democracy, objectivity and the decline of public trust in the news media.
Syracuse University’s Lars Willnat, an IU alumnus, joins Wilhoit and Weaver on the 2022 American Journalist study, which builds on national surveys of U.S. journalists over the last 50 years, including decades of work by Wilhoit, Weaver and their IU colleagues.
The 2022 survey examines the effect of social media in the newsroom, the role of U.S. media in democracy and the evolving challenges journalists face. Wilhoit recently contributed an essay offering an overview of the project and insights into the study on the site.
