Raymer article addresses McCurry, ethics
Professor Emeritus Steve Raymer is author of “Ethics Matters: A Commentary from NPPA’S Ethics Committee Regarding the Photographs of Steve McCurry,” posted recently on the National Press Photographers Association website.
The article looks into the recent discovery of photo editing and manipulation in the works of Steve McCurry, an award-winning photojournalist. Raymer discusses the ethics of editing journalistic photography in the modern age and discusses the relationship between fine art or aesthetic appeal and photojournalism.
Raymer worked as a National Geographic photographer for more than 25 years and has been recognized in the past as NPPA Magazine Photographer of the Year for his coverage of global hunger. He retired from teaching at Indiana University this spring.
