Lanosga, Clavio named interim associate deans; Parameswaran’s term ends
Associate professor Gerry Lanosga was appointed associate dean of academic affairs for The Media School, and Director of the National Sports Journalism Center and professor Galen Clavio was named the associate dean of undergraduate studies. Both positions became effective July 1 and will be interim for one year.
Herman B Wells Endowed Professor Radhika Parameswaran concluded her three-year term as associate dean on June 30. The Media School thanks her for her years of dedicated service.
As a scholar, Lanosga studies journalism’s development as a profession, its prize culture, and its intersections with public policy.
Previously, Lanosga spent nearly two decades as a print and broadcast journalist, winning awards on the state, regional, and national level. He has received the duPont/Columbia award, the George Foster Peabody award, and the Investigative Reporters and Editors’ Freedom of Information Medal.
Lanosga is also active on the boards of non-profit organizations, including the Midwest Center for Investigative Reporting, the Indiana Coalition for Open Government, the Indiana Debate Commission, and the Michael I. Arnolt Center for Investigative Journalism.
“I’m grateful to Dean Tolchinsky for this appointment,” Lanosga said. “Given the wide variety of challenges and opportunities facing media educators and practitioners, I’m eager to support my colleagues across the entire school in my new role. I look forward to helping ensure that the school continues its important work vigorously promoting media in all its forms, especially when it comes to our critical roles in fostering participation in social and democratic life in our communities.”
Clavio has worked as a professional broadcaster, reporter, and media relations director. He now teaches courses in sportscasting and play-by-play, applied uses of social media in sports media, sports and society, and the intersection of academic theory and social media. He operates as the on-air talent manager for IU’s Big Ten Student U program and serves as the faculty advisor for The Hoosier Network. He has authored over 50 peer-reviewed publications, numerous conference presentations, and several book chapters.
