Students use summer as learning experience abroad
Several classes and groups of students will visit three continents this summer to study and learn about global media.
This group of students, including junior Ernie Pyle Scholars, will study and intern in London for eight weeks. Led by associate professor Mike Conway, the students will work at British media organizations and attend classes to enhance their understanding of how media works in England.
Students in Media in Latin America will explore Chile as they supplement their coursework during spring semester. Led by professor Shannon Martin, the students spend nine days in Santiago and Valparaiso, visiting media outlets and networking with media students at Universidad Catolica.
Students travel to Uganda to work with professional journalists in that country as they research and report on the AIDS epidemic and the nonprofit agencies working to stem the spread of the disease. They will travel later in the summer, and their blogs will be posted at that time.
Roy W. Howard National Collegiate Reporting Competition
Nine students from across the country are traveling in Japan as recipients of the Roy W. Howard National Collegiate Reporting Competition. Associate professor Emily Metzgar is leading the trip along with Audrie Osterman, director of experiential education. The school partners with the Scripps Howard Foundation on the contest and study tour.
