Students, IDS win top awards at college media convention
IU took top honors, including College Reporter of the Year and News Story of the Year, and the Indiana Daily Student collected a Pacemaker award at the National College Media convention Oct. 29 to Nov. 2 in Philadelphia.
Senior Jessica Contrera was named Reporter of the Year and her story, completed as part of the Words and Pictures class, was named News Story of the Year. Several other IU students also picked up individual honors at the convention, which is sponsored jointly by the Associated Collegiate Press and the College Media Association.
The IU awards include:
- Indiana Daily Student, Pacemaker award, Mark Keierleber and Gage Bentley, editors.
- Jessica Contrera, four-year College Reporter of the Year; News Story of the Year for “After the Fall,” published in the IDS.
- Katie Mettler, Caitlin O’Hara, Missy Wilson, second place for Multimedia News Story of the Year, “Suspended Justice,” published in the IDS.
- Missy Wilson, first place, Infographic, “Elements of Breaking Bad,” IDS; and honorable mention, Yearbook/Magazine Page/Spread Design, Inside magazine.
- IDS staff, first place, Ad/Editorial Supplement of the Year, IDS.
- Samantha Schmidt, second place for Diversity Story of the Year, “Divided Court,” IDS.
- Katy Davis, third place, Display Ad of the Year, IDS.
- Will Royal, honorable mention, Illustration, International Student Guide, IDS.
- Emma Grdina, honorable mention, Page One Design, IDS, Newspaper Page/Spread Design
- Honorable Mention, Emma Grdina, Indiana Daily Student.
