Six Media School students finalists in Keating competition
Six Media School students have been selected as finalists for the 30th annual Keating Feature Writing Competition and Excellence in Journalism Awards.
Seniors Hannah Alani, Brody Miller and Grace Palmieri, and juniors Carley Lanich, Briana Susnak and Taylor Telford each submitted three examples of their published work, then were chosen along with four other finalists from around the state for the competition. The contest is sponsored annually by the Indianapolis Press Club Foundation.
All finalists will gather Nov. 11-12 in Indianapolis to meet with professional journalists, who will critique the stories each student submitted to the contest. The following day, they will complete an on-the-spot reporting assignment in the downtown area, with a limited number of hours to report and write the story.
That evening, finalists and press club members will gather for a dinner featuring Eric Bradner, a former Keating finalist and current CNN Politics reporter, and the club will announce the winners and two runners up, all of whom receive cash prizes.
The Keating Feature Writing Competition is named in honor of the late Thomas R. Keating, a feature columnist at the Indianapolis Star and communications professional at Eli Lilly & Co.
Last year, six IU students advanced to the final round of the competition, which Grace Palmieri won.
