Potter selected for inaugural Communication Science Service Award
Professor and Director of Graduate Studies Rob Potter has been awarded the inaugural Communication Science Service Award. In concert with the Communication Science Merit Review Committee, each spring the Director of Communication Science Paul Wright will select a unit member whose prior year service activities were truly extraordinary and above and beyond the already high expectations the unit has for its faculty. In addition to formal recognition for their service, the awardee receives $1,000 to further their research or creative activities.
“The service contributions of the Communication Science faculty are staggering which makes it difficult to select a single awardee. But professor Potter’s service to the Communication Science Unit, The Media School, and the discipline of communication is exceptional. He embodies the ‘others first’ ethic this award intends to commemorate.”
Professor Potter directed the Institute for Communication Research from 2004 to 2022. He is past Chair of the Information Systems Division of the International Communication Association and serves on the editorial board of Communication Research, Media Psychology, Journal of Media Psychology, and Communication Methods and Measures. His research focuses on the impact of sound on information processing of media, using psychophysiological measures as indicators of cognitive and emotional response. He is affectionately known as “The Audio Prof” by admirers of his pioneering research on audio media.
