Nobel Prize winner to deliver keynote address at Arnolt Symposium
Rappler CEO and 2021 Nobel Peace Prize winner Maria Ressa will deliver the keynote address at the upcoming Arnolt Center for Investigative Journalism Symposium. The event will take place Feb. 13 in Franklin Hall.
As CEO of Rappler, the top digital-only news site fighting for press freedom in the Philippines, Ressa has advocated to protect the rights of the press. The 2020 Sundance Film Festival documentary, “A Thousand Cuts,” covers Rappler’s battle for truth and democracy.
In October 2021, Ressa was one of two journalists awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in recognition of her “efforts to safeguard freedom of expression, which is a precondition for democracy and lasting peace.” She was appointed by the United Nations Secretary-General to the Leadership Panel of the Internet Governance Forum in 2022 and currently serves as its vice chair.
Ressa has authored several books, and her most recent one, “How to Stand Up to a Dictator,” discusses how to respond to social media disinformation in a political context. She continues to focus attention on the global information ecosystem and how interconnected communities of action can hold the line to protect democratic values.
The complete symposium schedule is available on the Arnolt Center website.
