Morgan research published in undergrad journal
Media School junior Jordan Morgan’s work, “Cultivating a Career: Effects of Television Binge-Watching and Character Identification on College Students’ Goal Occupations,” was published in the latest Indiana University Journal of Undergraduate Research.
Her paper focuses on the effects heavy television viewing can have on viewers’ life choices. Morgan researched how television can influence viewers’ desires to be like their favorite characters and how this influence can lead viewers to desire to obtain goals that align with those of these characters. The research results, as determined by a survey of IU undergraduates, indicate that there is some correspondence between these goals.
Morgan will be recognized for her achievement at a banquet at the Indiana Memorial Union April 27.
Assistant professor Jessica Gall Myrick served as mentor to Morgan, with assistance from doctoral candidate Rachelle Pavelko.
