Metzgar post looks at international broadcasting
Associate professor Emily Metzgar’s post “Settle Down. New Legislation Didn’t Create Trump TV,” has been published on the University of Southern California’s Center on Public Diplomacy blog.
In the post, Metzgar discusses legislation passed in late 2016 that created reforms on structures governing United States government-sponsored international broadcasting.
Metzgar notes misunderstood components of American foreign policy and how these misunderstandings have shaped people’s impressions of international broadcasting. She uses headlines about the Trump administration’s relationship with state-run television as a springboard to discuss these policy issues.
Metzgar’s research interests include public diplomacy and political communication. She is also the director of the Media School’s honors program.
