Mailland speaks at Massachusetts Institute of Technology

Assistant professor Julien Mailland, along with Kevin Driscoll of the University of Virginia, spoke Sept. 21 at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Department of Comparative Media Studies about Minitel, the world’s first mass-scale online system that ran for more than 30 years.
Although Minitel shut down in 2012, Mailland believes it is still important for thinking about Internet policy today and about an alternative model for the Internet’s future: a public platform for private innovation.
Mailland’s research interests include international communication, financial technologies and the history of online ecosystems.
