Mailland course part of State Department Diplomacy Lab
Assistant professor Julien Mailland’s MSCH-M413 Global Media Issues class has been accepted to The Role of Technology in International Relations, a project from the U.S. State Department’s Diplomacy Lab in partnership with IU.
Students in the course research how media technologies can help the state department’s public diplomacy efforts. Students will engage with professionals through Skype calls during the course, receiving guidance and advice from them along the way. Students will create research features through this process. The best will be included in a U.S. State Department’s internal publication.
This is one of eight classes at IU participating in the Diplomacy Lab, Mailland said. The School of Government and International Studies also is a partner.
Students in all eight classes will present their work in a campuswide seminar in April.
Mailland’s research interests include telecommunications networks ecosystems design, law, and policy.
