Journalism students win contest for work abroad
Two Media School students have won News-Decoder’s essay/reporting contest for their stories from Media School field experience courses in Uganda and Japan. The contest honors student work and allows students to express their views on a platform.
Nick Trombola, a senior studying journalism, reported on a transgender woman in Uganda facing a decade of prison time. Last summer, Trombola interned at a newsroom in Uganda and reported on the South Sudanese refugee crisis and on HIV/AIDS activism as part of MSCH-X478: Reporting HIV/AIDS in Africa.
Regina Mack, also a senior in journalism, wrote about women in Japan protesting sexual violence at a U.S. military base as part of MSCH-X478: Reporting War and Peace in Okinawa.
