IU wins Hearst intercollegiate writing competition
IU placed first in the Hearst Journalism Awards Program’s Intercollegiate Competition writing category for the fifth year in a row, earning The Media School a $10,000 prize.
Often called “the Pulitzers of college journalism,” Hearst holds monthly competitions in writing, television, radio, multimedia and photojournalism for journalism undergraduates. Schools accumulate points when their students place in the various categories.
IU also placed eighth in the overall competition, across all categories.
Next week, Jack Evans, BAJ’18, and senior Nyssa Kruse will participate in the finals of the Hearst National Writing Championship in San Francisco. Taylor Telford, BAJ’18, won first place in the 2017 championship competition, making it three years in a row that an IU student won the competition.
