Indiana Statehouse shows its journalistic side
By Zoe Spilker
The minute you step into the Indiana Statehouse, you feel an air of importance.
While in the Statehouse, we toured the building and spoke with Associated Press reporter Tom Davis. He showed us where the reporters work and where the House and Senate chambers are. He explained the process of following a bill for a story and even said reporters are often looking at and listening to multiple committee meetings at a time to get all their information. In a typical day, Statehouse reporters could be working on up to three different stories.
Katherine Schulze said she “loved seeing the journalistic side of the Statehouse.”
I had never thought about the reporters who work at such government places before and how their days work, but the entire process is so interesting.
I learned how fast-paced the atmosphere is. The constant need for up-to-date information makes it increasingly important that these reporters keep up with everything going on with the state government.
“The Statehouse is a really beautiful building, and it’s cool to be around people shaping our news stories everyday,” said Anna Hyzy, sophomore Media Scholar.
