IDS wins Gold Crown at CSPA
The Indiana Daily Student, IU’s student-run newspaper, won its 30th Gold Crown, among other awards, at the 2016 Columbia Scholastic Press Association’s College Media Convention March 15-17 in New York.
The IDS received its Gold Crown for College Hybrid News publication, honoring both the print edition and the website.
A Gold Crown is CSPA’s top honor for collegiate newspapers. These awards honor the overall excellence of design, photography, concept, coverage and writing of the publications from the 2014-15 academic school year. Editors were Michael Majchrowicz, BAJ’15, and Evan Hoopfer, BAJ’15.
The IDS also received a national first place award for best display advertisement from the College Media Business and Advertising Managers.
Other national awards received include:
- Second place for best back-to-school/orientation issue, IDS staff.
- Second place for best online display ad, Marissa Churchill.
- Second place for best sales promotion materials, IDS staff.
- Second place for best self-promotion print ad campaign, Alex Estabrook.
- Third place for best display in ad color, Mercer Suppiger.
- Fourth place for best online self-promotion ad, Alex Estabrook.
Greg Menkedick and Roger Hartwell are IDS advertising advisors, and the IDS news advisor is Ruth Witmer. The paper’s Web advisor is Malinda Aston and Ron Johnson directs IU Student Media, which publishes the IDS and other campus publications.
