IDS, IUSTV win CMA Pinnacle, ACP awards
The Indiana Daily Student, IU Student Television, and the Arbutus yearbook won several awards from the Associated Collegiate Press and College Media Association, which were presented at the Fall National College Media Convention Oct. 29-Nov. 2 in Atlanta.
The IDS was also a finalist for the Pacemaker award – ACP’s preeminent national award recognizing overall excellence — in the multiplatform and online categories.
Associated Collegiate Press – Individual Awards
- Cailin O’Malley, IDS: first place, design of the year, newspaper front page, “Cheatbot: IU Experts recommend professors use ChatGPT as learning tool”
- Jack Donnelly, IDS: second place, design of the year, illustration, “2023 Little 500 Guide”
- Kayla Pallotto, IDS: third place, story of the year, feature story, “The Education of a Freshman”
- Lauren Ulrich, IDS: fifth place, Ernie Pyle human interest profile (sponsored by the Ernie Pyle Legacy Foundation and Scripps Howard), “She dreams of Afghanistan”
- Alex Paul, IDS: fifth place, photo of the year, sports feature photo
Associated Collegiate Press – Best of Show
The IDS placed second in the digital newsletter, fourth in the advertising media kit, and sixth in the newspaper/newsmagazine categories. Arbutus placed fifth in the yearbook category.

College Media Association Pinnacle Awards
The IDS placed first in the best weekly newspaper of the year category and second in the best college media group of the year. IUSTV placed first in the best video sportscast category for “Hoosier Sports Nite” and second place in the best video newscast category for “Hoosier News Source.”
