IDS, Arbutus, individuals place in ACP competitions
The 2014-15 Indiana Daily Student newspaper and the 2015 Arbutus yearbook took home three awards from the Associated Collegiate Press Fall National College Media Convention Oct. 28 – Nov. 1 in Austin, Texas.
In addition to publication awards, seven Media School students and recent graduates placed in ACP individual competitions.
The 2014 IDS, overseen by editors-in-chief Michael Majchrowicz, BAJ’15, and Evan Hoopfer, BAJ’15, won the ACP Pacemaker award out of the competing daily newspapers from four-year colleges. The Pacemaker award is an honor that recognizes excellence in all parts of the publication, including content, writing, design and photography.
The fall 2015 IDS, edited by senior Janica Kaneshiro, and the 2015 Arbutus, edited by Jordan Canary, BAJ’15, each received an ACP Best of Show award in their categories.
Media School students and recent graduates who won awards in ACP individual competitions are:
- Evan Hoopfer, BAJ’15, first place in sportswriting
- Senior Leah Johnson, first place in opinion writing
- Senior Megan Jula, third place in multimedia feature
- Griffin Leeds, BAJ’15, fourth place in features design
- Senior Ben Mikesell, fifth place in sports photojournalism
- Glory Sheeley, BAJ’15, third place in multimedia feature
- Mary Shown, BAJ’15, third place in multimedia feature
