Grad student dhakal selected for student journalism training project

tanka dhakal, a graduate student at The Media School, has been selected as one of the 10 emerging journalists by the NLGJA: The Association of LGBTQ+ Journalists to join the annual CONNECT: Student Journalism Training Project cohort.
As a part of the 2025 CONNECT program, dhakal will attend the NLGJA: The Association of LGBTQ+ Journalists National Convention in Atlanta from Sept. 4-7 to produce portfolio-quality journalism, network with media professionals in the field, and receive professional feedback on his resume and career plans.
dhakal is pursuing his master’s degree in investigative journalism and is a fellow at the Arnolt Center for Investigative Journalism. He previously worked as an independent journalist in Nepal covering climate, migration, and marginalized communities, and has contributed to NPR, The Guardian, ICIJ, and other international outlets. His research interests include climate change and media, cross-border journalism, and minority representation in media.
