Criterion Channel series features Francis interview
A new film series streaming on the Criterion Channel about Josephine Baker, the first Black woman to star in a major motion picture, features an introduction by BFC/A director and associate professor Terri Francis.
Francis is interviewed by filmmaker Ina Archer in the introduction to “The Queen of Paris: Josephine Baker.” Deonna Weatherly, BA’18, MA’20, and Media School senior Bria McCarty — former BFC/A research assistants — were producers for the video.
The interview was recorded in the Center for Black Literature and Culture at the Indianapolis Public Library.
Francis offered background and insight into Baker in the interview. She is the author of “Josephine Baker’s Cinematic Prism.”
