Conway article wins top award from American Journalism
An article by associate professor Mike Conway is the winner of the Best Article Award, an annual honor bestowed by the journal American Journalism for excellent scholarship.
Conway’s 2014 study, “The Origins of Television’s ‘Anchor Man’: Cronkite, Swayze, and Journalism Boundary Work,” is a comparative analysis of the role of the “anchor man” during the advent of television news in the U.S.
Members of the journal’s editorial board selected Conway’s article from among three nominees. The award is a premier prize of American Journalism, which is the publication of the American Journalism Historians Association. Conway’s research focuses on 20th-century radio and television news history.
