Beckley donates collection of historic newspapers
Ken Beckley, former president of the IU Alumni Association, has donated a selection of historic newspaper fronts from 1917 to 2011 as well as a box of photofaxes from the Kennedy assassination to The Media School’s archives.
Many of the pages are from The Indianapolis Star. The earliest is “America At War With Germany,” from The Daily Republican in Rush County.
The collection will be named the Ken Beckley Collection in honor of the donor.
Beckley, a Lynnville, Indiana, native, earned a bachelor’s degree in radio and television from IU in 1962. He spent 14 years as a television journalist, including nine years as anchor at WRTV in Indianapolis. He also worked extensively in advertising and public relations for H.H. Gregg, retiring as executive vice president.
Beckley was president of the IUAA from 2002 to 2007. During Beckley’s presidency, IUAA events and publications received seven awards from the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education, District V, which includes all of the Big Ten member institutions.
