Scholars have a long tradition of examining how film and media production and reception are shaped by ideas of national identity and belonging. The centrality of the nation, however, has been unsettled in the last few decades by work that emphasizes transnational, postcolonial and global approaches, ones that account for both the role of nations and the permeability of borders.
