Parameswaran’s chapter to appear in forthcoming book
A chapter by professor and chair of journalism Radhika Parameswaran will appear in the forthcoming book, Race Post-Race: Culture, Critique, and the Color Line.
Parameswaran’s chapter, “‘Jamming’ the Color Line: Comedy, Carnival, and Contestations of Commodity Colorism,” examines online parodies and videos that make fun of and challenge racist premises of skin-lightening commercials. The chapter argues that these activist media from ordinary citizens create a lively space for questioning racist and sexist beauty norms.
The book, to be published by Duke University Press, was edited by Roopali Mukherjee, Sarah Banet-Weiser and Herman Gray.
