Parameswaran presents at Cultural Studies Conference
Professor Radhika Parameswaran presented at the 23rd annual Cultural Studies Conference on Sept. 29.
Her presentation, “Vision, Visibility and Visuality: Skin Pedagogies and Social Hierarchies in India,” argued that skin visibility in consumer and activist culture in contemporary India is tied to ideologies of nation, gender, race, caste and class. The presentation was a part of the panel, “Visions of Empire.”
The conference is hosted by IU’s cultural studies program, and this year’s theme was “Visual and Material Cultures in Global Perspectives.”
