Parameswaran on panel, ‘Dark Side of Beauty’
One of the early Themester presentations of the semester features professor Radhika Parameswaran as a panelist for “The Dark Side of Beauty” at 4 p.m. Sept. 12 in Hodge Hall 2083.
The focus of the College of Arts and Sciences’ Themester 2016 program is Beauty, and a series of presentations and events are set for the rest of the semester.
Parameswaran will be joined by panelists Nancy Rudd, chair of the Body Image Health Task force at the Ohio State University, and Jennifer Maher, director of undergraduate studies at the IU Gender Studies department. They will explore and share their research on images found in fashion media, video games, films, television and pornography and their effects on women, and, increasingly, men and children as well.
The talk, free and open to the public, will be preceded by a screening of The Illusionists, a film that examines these topics. The Department of Apparel Merchandising and Interior Design is sponsoring event.
