Ogan co-authors book chapter on Gezi Park protest
Professor Emerita Christine Ogan is co-author of “The Relationship Between Online and Offline Communication in a Social Movement: Gezi Park Protests in the Diaspora,” a chapter in the new book, Taking the Square: Mediated Dissent and Occupations of Public Space.
The chapter covers the 2013 Gezi Park protest in Turkey, examining members of the Turkish diaspora living in Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands and how they engaged in the protest. It looks at both online and offline participation in the protest through social media such as Facebook and Twitter or demonstrations in the streets of Europe, as well as the motivations and feelings related to the protests.
Co-authors are Leen S. J. d’Haenens and Roya Imani Giglou, both of Katholieke Universiteit Leuven in Belgium.
