Metzgar teaches at Thai workshop
Associate professor Emily Metzgar taught at a workshop on the media’s role in communities facing violence and unrest to media professionals in Thailand.
“Best Practices for Managing Broadcast and Social Media in Environments of Violent Extremism,” brought together Thailand’s broadcast regulators and journalists from three provinces in Thailand’s deep south, where an insurgent movement has brought violence and unrest during the last 13 years. The workshop was sponsored by the Institute for Defense and Business and the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission of Thailand. The workshop took place in May.
Metzgar delivered three presentations focused on media response to violent extremism, the role of media in society and functioning in a changing media landscape.
