Metzgar looks at JET program alumni
Associate professor Emily Metzgar’s article “Willing Interpreters & Receivers: American Alumni of the Japan Exchange & Teaching (JET) Program,” has been published in Palgrave Communications. The article focuses on the Japan Exchange and Teaching Program established in 1987 by the Japanese government.
This research looks at how the American JET community, which has historically generated more than half the program’s alumni, has created benefits for sponsors and participants through international exchange. The article demonstrates the soft power dynamics between the United States and Japan, and is part of a larger collection on soft power.
Metzgar’s research interests include public diplomacy and international communication.
