IU ranks 7th internationally for communications program
IU Bloomington’s communication program has earned a top 10 ranking in communication from the 2019 Academic Ranking of World Universities’ global ranking of academic subjects, rated at No. 7 worldwide.
The rankings are based on the number and quality of research publications, as well as the number of faculty who have won major awards.
“The Media School builds on a long tradition of research excellence in fields of communication, media studies, and journalism,” said Dean James Shanahan. “It’s heartening to have confirmation in a numerical ranking, but I hope those who are interested in the research of the School will take time to look into what we do in more detail. There’s a lot there that’s relevant in today’s world, and especially for students looking to understand what their path might be in a media-rich environment.”
Two other IU programs ranked in the top 10 in their categories – No. 1 in public administration and No. 3 in library and information science.
Eight additional IU programs ranked in the top 50 in their field, including business administration (No. 11), sociology (No. 13), finance (No. 15), management (No. 34) and political science (No. 45).
