Martin gives keynote address at conference on memories of slavery, colonization
Professor Michael Martin gave a keynote address at the conference, Memories of Slavery and Colonization: Historiography, Arts, and Museums, on Nov. 9 at Le Mans University in France.
The talk, “Trans-Historical Formations, the ‘Living’ Archive and Re-Purposing the Museum in the Play of Memory,” addressed the materialities and immaterialities of memory as they are inscribed in slavery and colonization and how memory can gesture the past, present and an indeterminate futurity; and how the museum, as a key site of cultural politics, can serve a transformative role in society.
At the conference, Martin also moderated a panel on “Visual Representations of Slavery.”
