Lanich, Kruse earn Hearst honors
Senior Carley Lanich and junior Nyssa Kruse placed third and eighth, respectively, in the 2017-18 Hearst Journalism Awards Program’s Enterprise Reporting Competition.
Lanich earned a $1,500 scholarship for her story, “The system,” a four-part investigation about IU’s processes for investigating sexual misconduct.
Kruse received a certificate of merit for her story, “Off stage,” which chronicled the rebuilding process for the Jacobs School of Music ballet department after losing three professors in a four-month period.
Both stories were published in the Indiana Daily Student this fall. Lanich’s and Kruse’s stories were two of 122 entries in the enterprise reporting category from 70 undergraduate journalism schools.
IU placed first with the most points accumulated in the second of five writing contests. IU finished in first place in the Intercollegiate Writing Competition last year for the fourth consecutive year.
