IU wins eight Mark of Excellence awards in SPJ Region 5
IU students and media organizations won eight first place awards and were finalists in 14 categories of the Society of Professional Journalists’ Region 5 Mark of Excellence awards.
A total of 109 prizes were announced at Region 5’s annual conference March 28 in Louisville. Region 5 represents chapters in Illinois, Indiana and Kentucky. Those who won first place will compete at the national level, and awards will be announced at the Excellence in Journalism national conference in Orlando, Florida, Sept. 18-20.
IU students and publications honored were:

Investigations Staff, winner, in-depth reporting, “Sexual Assault at IU,” IDS.
Jenna Fagan, first place, nonfiction magazine article, “Dear Dolly,” 812 The Magazine.
Megan Jula, first place, breaking news reporting, “Indianapolis man saves children from drowning,” IDS. First place, general news reporting, “When students die,” IDS.
Lionel Lim, first place, feature photography, for “ROTC members participate, reflect on field experience training,” IDS.
Charles Scudder, Anna Teeter, Missy Wilson, first place, online feature reporting, “Dad’s bucket,” IDS.
Kale Wilk, first place, radio feature, “Farmer Chris Vosters finds comfort in selling kettle corn,” Indiana Public Media.
