IDS, 812 staffers win at SPJ Region 5
Indiana Daily Student and 812 The Magazine reporters were recognized for their work in 2015 at the Society of Professional Journalists Region 5 Mark of Excellence Awards ceremony April 2 in Cincinnati.
The Mark of Excellence awards recognize achievement of student journalists in their chapters’ respective regions. Winners of these awards go onto the national Mark of Excellence competition, where winners will be announced at the SPJ national conference in New Orleans in September.
Of the 475 entries in Region 5, 113 awards were given. IU took home finalist or winner recognition for seven.
Winners:
- Michael Majchrowicz, BAJ’15, won the General News Reporting award for this story, “The Guardian,” published in the IDS.
- Idsnews.com won for Best Affiliated Website.
Finalists:
- Indiana Daily Student, Best All-Around Daily Student Newspaper.
- Seniors Alden Woods and Ike Hajinazarian, and junior Anna Boone, Online Feature Reporting, “The Unsettled,” published in the IDS.
- Senior Megan Jula, Online In-Depth Reporting, “Waiting for Help,” published in the IDS.
- Senior Alden Woods, Feature Writing (large school), “The Unsettled,” published in the IDS.
- Seniors Kelsey Roadruck and Haley Ward, Nonfiction Magazine Article, “Still Waters,” published in 812 The Magazine of Southern Indiana.
