Conway wins AJHA’s Best Article Award
Associate professor Mike Conway won the Best Article Award and appeared at two other events that were part of the 34th annual American Journalism Historians Association conference Oct. 7-10.
Conway received the award from the journal American Journalism for his 2014 study, “The Origins of Television’s ‘Anchor Man’: Cronkite, Swayze, and Journalism Boundary Work.” The article is a comparative analysis of the role of the “anchor man” during the advent of television news in the U.S.
He was a panelist in a discussion that evaluated the importance of historic documentary film, and, as the award committee chair, presented AJHA’s top honor, the Kobre Award, to Mike Sweeney of Ohio University.
The Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communication hosted the conference at the University of Oklahoma. This year’s conference marked Conway’s 10th year as a member of the organization.
