At CSN, digital communication redefines sports media
T.K. Gore, senior director of digital for Comcast SportsNet in Chicago, opened his discussion with a small group of IU Media School Ambassadors by saying what we were all thinking.
“It’s a great day to be in media.”
Agreed.
Friday, we visited CSN Chicago and spoke with Gore about the ever-evolving world of sports communication. In the realm of digital, he talked to us about how CSN went from having an outdated website to being one of the leaders in sports broadcasting of Chicago.
He also touched on Facebook stadium and how live streaming and live tweeting games are seen as a new alternative to the old school approach of broadcasting games.
However, he sees it as an opportunity to grab more viewers who couldn’t watch the game from home. Fans can catch up via Twitter or the live stream on their phone, which opens up more channels to push content.
He closed by giving us three nuggets of wisdom: be a brand, network and be creative.
Gore’s talk was preceded by a tour from Danni Wysocki, senior booker for CSN. There wasn’t much going on in the newsroom because reporters were out in the field at the White Sox convention, while the sales team was in Mexico with clients.
A great day to be in media, indeed.
