Ad club students take fourth in district competition
IU’s new chapter of the American Advertising Federation already is gaining attention.
IU students in the Bloomington Advertising Club won fourth place in the AAF District 6 National Student Advertising Competition April 11 in South Bend. This is the first year that the IU club participated in the competition.
Seven Media School students and two Kelley School of Business students participated in the presentation: Jane Wang, journalism sophomore and club president; Lisa Hernandez, journalism senior and club treasurer; Nico Satryan, journalism senior; David Murhling, telecommunications senior; Brielle Drelick, journalism junior; Stu Summerville, journalism sophomore; Casey Fielder, journalism junior; and Stephanie Chen and Lauren Kaindl, both sophomores at the Kelley School of Business.
The competition was a year-long effort to create an integrated marketing communication proposal for Pizza Hut, NSAC’s sponsoring client company. Student proposals and presentations were judged by a panel of national marketing directors from Pizza Hut headquarters as well as district advertising and marketing executives.
District 6 is the largest in the AAF, including all college and university chapters from Illinois, Michigan and Indiana.
BAD joined AAF’s student division last fall. The club is open to all and is sponsored by lecturer Craig Wood, whose four decades in the advertising field include leadership roles at Saatchi & Saatchi, and FitzGerald, and consultant to clients such a Chrysler, DuPont and Kodak.
