812 magazine wins AEJMC award
812: The Magazine of Southern Indiana won a first place award in the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communications student magazine competition.
The summer/fall 2018 issue placed first in the Single Issue of an Ongoing Magazine—Editorial category.
The publication is the culminating project of the class Creating an Indiana Magazine. Senior Sophia Bird was editor of the edition, and emeritus senior lecturer Nancy Comiskey, who created the course, taught the class during its award-winning semester.
“(It’s) hard to believe this is a student magazine,” wrote Mark Potts, a publishing consultant and founding editor of Alta, The Journal of Alta, California, in his judge’s comments. “A very professional execution of a city/regional publication. Lots of good editorial and design thinking throughout.”
