Andrea Hanis, BA'91

Andrea Hanis died Nov. 12, 2025, at the age of 56. She battled glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer. Hanis was celebrated for her innovative spirit as editor of Chicago Daily Law Bulletin. She also held significant leadership roles at Chicago Tribune, Crain's Chicago Business, and the Chicago Sun-Times. 

Mary Hamilton, BAJ'20

Mary Kate Hamilton received a Community Statesman award for media from the Odessa Heritage Foundation. She is currently the morning reporter at Atlanta News First. Previously, she was a weekend sports anchor and reporter for CBS7 in Odessa, Texas. (November 2025)

Phillip Jones, BA'62

Phillip A. Jones died Nov. 10, 2025, at the age of 87. He received his degree in broadcast journalism and philosophy and began a broadcast career at WLWI-TV13, now WTHR, while serving in the U.S. Army. Jones's most notable work was recognized by the national Robert F. Kennedy journalism award for an hour-long documentary he produced on race relations with the Detroit Police Department after the Detroit riot. He also received Associated press and Detroit Press Club Foundation honors for coverage of the 1967 riot and police-Black Panther confrontations. In 1971, Jones became broadcast news relations manager for Michigan Bell (later to become Ameritech). He retired in 1994 as director of media relations for Ameritech Michigan. For more than 20 years, he taught courses in public relations, broadcast news writing, broadcast performance and audio production as a part-time instructor at WSU.

Elizabeth Rees, BAJ'06

Elizabeth Rees is the co-founder of Chasing Paper, a company that specializes in quality removable and traditional wallpaper, floor tiles, and art prints. Since its launch in 2013, the business has grown into a multi-million dollar entity. Rees is set to release her book, "Wall Flowers: A Love Letter to Wallpaper," on March 10. (November 2025)

Charles Teeple, BA'50

Charles Emery Teeple died Sept. 10, 2025 at the age of 97. At the beginning of his career, Teeple served in the Army for two years and ended at first lieutenant, though he was a corporate executive and journalist for most of his life. At IU, he was editor-in-chief for IDS and its Indiana State Fair edition. He also won the Ernie Pyle scholarship.

Charlie Miller, BA'88

Charlie Miller leads the "Best of CNY" franchise, which engages readers to help find top local businesses, places to visit, and activities in central New York. (November 2025)

Michael Uslan, BA'73, MS'75, JD'76

Michael Uslan is honored at NJ Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, a celebration of notable New Jersey citizens. Along side others in the performing arts and entertainment category, Uslan is recognized for originator and executive producer of the Batman movie franchise. Previously, he and his wife Nancy Uslan received the Sagamore of the Wabash, which is the highest honor the governor of Indiana can bestow to distinguished Hoosiers who have made significant contributions to the state of Indiana. The Uslans received it for their decades of service, philanthropy, and contribution to the arts. (November 2025)

Scott McDonald, BA'93

Scott McDonald is the chief executive officer of RAIN group, a global sales training company that helps enterprise teams drive results through coaching, reinforcement, and tech-enabled solutions. Previously, he was chief sales officer for The Brooks Group. (November 2025)
