FAQs

Yes. Students are able to receive academic credit for their internship experience by applying for and enrolling in one of our internship courses. Students may only apply for an internship course after they have received an offer from an internship provider. Generally, the minimum internship work hours required for students to receive credit is 120 work hours (for journalism students) and 45 hours (for all other media majors) over the course of their internship. While this process likely won’t change anything from the employer’s perspective, academic credit might make an unpaid or low-paid internship more attractive to a potential student intern.

Students can talk to their academic advisor or email MSCHint@iu.edu with any questions about the internship-for-credit process.

Yes. We have a number of scholarships for students pursuing both unpaid and paid internships. These are awarded on a student-by-student basis and depend on the individual student’s application (i.e., not from the employer) and available funding. Students can learn more about internship scholarships and apply for them through the Walter Center for Career Achievement.
