Three films in Culver festival
The work of a Media School student and two recent graduates will be shown at the Gift of Warmth Film Festival Sept. 4 in Culver, Indiana.
The following student films will be screened and awarded cash prizes:
- American Redneck Samurai by Matt Dillman, BA’14, for lecturer John Walsh’s cinematography class;
- My Grandpa’s Garage by Adrienne Wagner, BA’15, for lecturer Susanne Schwibs’ documentary class;
- Junior Jonathan Carey’s film, The Mustache, created for senior lecturer Jim Krause’s cinematography class.
The films were three of nine films made by IU students that were submitted to the contest. Organizers of the event contacted Schwibs asking for IU submissions. All faculty members who teach production classes nominated one or two films from their students’ work, and associate professor Mike Conway, Krause and Schwibs chose the nine that would be submitted.
The Culver festival is a fundraiser that operates in partnership with the Lions Club of Culver to raise money for heating costs and outerwear for local families during winter months. After the screening at the Epply Auditorium of Culver Academies, audiences will vote for their favorite film, and cash prizes will be awarded. The winning filmmaker will receive $1,000, but every student featured will receive a cash prize.
