Selma filmmaker interview in Black Camera journal
Those watching the Oscars Sunday night may get an insider perspective from the director of
one of the movies nominated for best picture.
Ava DuVernay, director of Selma, one of eight films nominated for best picture, talked with Black Film Center/Archive director Michael Martin for a Q&A featured in the January issue of Black Camera, the journal Martin edits. DuVernay visited the center in fall 2013 to show her work and lecture.
In the piece, DuVernay talks about how her roots in public relations in Hollywood shaped her business model, and she describes her techniques for producing movies. But she also discusses the stories she sought to tell, including the genesis of Selma.
