Project Muse Commons honors Black Camera
Black Film Center/Archive director Michael Martin is editor-in-chief of a journal that received a top honor from Project Muse Commons.
His journal, Black Camera, was named Journal of the Month for its uniqueness and exploration of black cinema, particularly during Black History Month.
The award’s announcement on the Project Muse Commons website pointed out how Black Camera documented cinema around black history in its articles, including “Cinema as Political Activism: Contemporary Meaning in The Spook Who Sat by the Door” by Marilyn Yaquinto of Truman State University.
Martin co-edited a book, Redress for Historical Injustices in the United States: On Reparations for Slavery, Jim Crow, and Their Legacies, with Yaquinto and co-authored an academic paper, “Reparations for ‘America’s Holocaust’: Activism for Global Justice.”
Indiana University Press publishes Black Camera.
